Agaricus

Latin: Agaricus blazei Murill

Czech: Brazilian/almond mushroom

Chinese: Ji Song Rong 姬松茸

Japanese: Himemtsutake

Thevital Agaricus mushroom is native to South America and has been known since the time of the Incas. It originally grew around the village of Piedade near Sao Paulo. It is now cultivated all over the world. It has been known as the 'mushroom of the gods' or also the 'mushroom of life'. The local inhabitants lived to an older age and there were far fewer cancers among them.

The mushroom has an exquisite sweet taste and smells of almonds. Interestingly, it grows in sunny places and not in the shade like most mushrooms. In English it is called the 'sun mushroom'.

In 1945, mycologist W. A. Murill included it in his herbarium, but it was not until 1960 that it received more laboratory research. Thanks to Japanese scientists, many therapeutic effects have been demonstrated.

Agaricus is of great scientific interest. It has very good results in the treatment of HIV positive and skin melanomas. For example, Ronald Reagan used it for a long time to support the treatment of his skin tumour.
