First of all, we want to remind you that spring is here! Hooray, we rejoice in spirit. But many of us will soon think that with the new spring will surely come that old, annoying pollen season again. And it does. And they say it's going to get worse. So, cheers to spring, and cheers to pollen.
US scientists have found a link between climate change and a longer and more intense pollen season. Climate change has already lengthened the spring season, increasing the amount of pollen, University of Michigan climatologists have found. The research examined a total of 15 different pollens from plants. Through computer animation, the scientists calculated what the pollen season of 2100 will look like. Apparently, it will be worse and longer.
Over 2 million people in our country observe some changes on themselves during pollen season. One in two Europeans suffers due to flying pollen. The number of people affected is increasing every year and increasingly children are also affected.
Pollen and mould are undoubtedly the most important.
The maximum pollen is therefore airborne in dry and windy weather. In contrast, the number of pollen grains decreases after prolonged rain. The pollen season has been steadily lengthening in our country in recent decades. It usually lasts from February/March to September/October.
In the Czech Republic, the pollen season can be divided into 3 main periods:
Spring season (February to May): the tree season.
summer season (May to July): grass season
autumn season (August to October): weed season
The main representatives here are hazel, alder and birch. The most common grasses are boletus, ryegrass, lime, tomclover, hornwort and fescue. We also include cereals: wheat, barley, rye and oats.
