Drought is a pathology of autumn and enters the body through the nose or mouth. It invades the lungs and dries out the fluids, leading to dehydration of blood and nourishing energy and impairing the body's hydration. The dryness is very similar to and can result from a Yin deficiency.

Dryness can be caused by hot or cold dryness.

Warm dryness: occurs in autumn during Indian summer or spring. It attacks the defensive energy of Wei Qi, skin and lungs. It manifests as fever, chills, headache, mild sweating, dry throat and nose, and thirst.

Cold drought: It is the result of cold autumn days. It manifests itself on the skin and lungs, rather feverish, stuffy nose without dryness, thin phlegm, dry lips. The dryness may quickly transform into heat.

General principles of diet in the painting

Dryness primarily affects the lungs and stomach and associated tissues. Dryness may or may not be associated with Yin deficiency. Foods intended to moisten dryness tend to lubricate and produce mucus, which distinguishes them from Yin-enhancing foods. Consumption of steamed or steamed vegetables and adherence to a drinking regimen are recommended to adequately hydrate the body.

Recommended foods

  • Small amounts of milk and dairy products (butter, yogurt)

Avoid

  • Fried, baked and grilled foods
  • Drying foods (pastries and bread)
  • Hot foods and foods that heat up (chilli, curry, dried ginger, cinnamon, cloves, lamb, deer, boar meat)
  • Hard alcohol and red wine

Clinical notes

Chinese doctors say that in the images of dryness, it is not enough to drink water, but it is necessary to eat water. This means that you need to eat more foods containing liquids. Soups, vegetables, fruits. Eating only rolls would be the wrong way to go.


Recommended drinking regime:

  • 1 glass of boiled water with lime, lemon or honey (for constipation).
  • Between 10am and 12pm: 2 glasses of boiled water or herbal tea (mint) to replenish fluids
  • Between 3 and 5 pm: 2 glasses of water or diluted vegetable juice (carrots, beetroot, apples, pears) for detoxification
  • Evening before bed: glass of water or herbal tea to keep blood from thickening

Recipes

Healing soup to moisten

We need:

  • 50 g lily bulbs (Bai Hé)
  • 100 g chopped asparagus

Procedure:

Bring the lily bulbs to the boil in 1 l of water and cook for 30 minutes over low heat. Add 100 g chopped asparagus and cook for another 30 minutes. Serve 2 times a day. DO NOT SALT!

Cottage cheese with Hericius

Required:

  • 100 g tofu
  • 20 g of Hericium mushroom
  • 15 g hard curd
  • 15 g peanuts
  • 1 spring onion
  • 1½ tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Shoyu
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • salt
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Procedure:

Soak the dried Hericium, finely slice the onion, dice the tofu and cottage cheese and mix everything together. Squeeze the water out of the Hericium and chop into pieces. Heat the oil in a pan, add the onion, tofu, cottage cheese, Hericium and peanuts and mix everything together. Stir in the Shoyu, honey and salt. Add 1 cup of water, bring to a boil, skim and simmer for about 15 minutes. Drizzle with sesame oil and serve.
